A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 74-year-old man was seriously injured in Antrim, police said.

The pair approached the pensioner on Station Road in the town shortly after 19:30 GMT on Saturday.

The pensioner was punched in the head by the man, who knocked him unconscious.

It was stated that the person, who was seriously injured in the head, was taken to the hospital for treatment and his condition was critical.

A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested and detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
