Freeze Watch for inland SLO County, High Wind Warning for Santa Barbara County

Weather headlines:

– Large systems passing through the western United States will bring numerous strong, damaging winds and dangerous fire-weather conditions to parts of California over the next few days.

-The forecast will remain mostly dry until next week.

Detailed forecast:

Significant jet energy extends from the backside of an upper trough that slowly shifted eastward over the Great Basin earlier this weekend.

A jet wave over Arizona on Saturday night and Sunday will enter the bottom of the trough, leaving Southern California with large-surface protruding buildings from the Central California Valley to the Central Great Basin.

Strong upper-level support and offshore pressure gradients on Sunday will support damaging 60-80 mph winds from the northwest to north I-5 corridor through the Ventura County Mountains into the Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains and eastern Santa. Ynez Range from tonight through Sunday afternoon.

As a result, a High Wind Warning has been issued for Santa Barbara County until 6pm on Sunday.

On Sunday, the eastward shift of the surface ridge across the central Great Basin will return stronger offshore.

In turn, winds will trend northeasterly, with stronger winds focused on wind-prone areas of Santa Ana.

Downslope drying in this model will combine with strong, damaging winds to create critical fire-weather conditions.

Low to moderate winds are expected to weaken Monday into Tuesday.

Daily temperature changes are expected to be minimal, with a slight warming trend early next week.

By Tuesday, high temperatures will be in the 70s in most areas.

Coupled with the aforementioned expansion of the surface outcrop amidst the drying deep layer profile, ample overnight radiative cooling will allow low temperatures to reach the 30-32F range Sunday night, warranting a Freeze Watch for the Southern Salinas Valley, San Luis Obispo County Interior Valleys. and Antelope Valley.

Otherwise, strong drying caused by depression will prevent the development of precipitation.
