With the start of the offseason Chicago CubsThe franchise is looking to improve on what has been a pretty solid season this winter.

The Cubs unfortunately weren’t a playoff contender last season despite finishing above .500 in 2024. While there was some great baseball for Chicago, there were also plenty of inconsistencies.

The Cubs will want to fine-tune some things with the team this offseason because they won’t be too far away from competing in the playoffs in 2025.

They want to add a power hitter to their lineup in the middle of the order, but much of what they do to upgrade the lineup will likely come down to: Cody Bellinger using the option.

For the bullpen, this is probably the area where they need the most help, as adding multiple arms could be a good idea for Chicago.

On the positive side, the Cubs’ starting rotation is pretty solid with a quartet of talented pitchers. Although Chicago has an open spot in the rotation, it seems unlikely that Buehler will be the man to fill that void.

While Buehler is certainly an attractive player in free agency this offseason, Chicago won’t be the best fit for him in free agency as they have more pressing needs in other areas. However, if a starter is traded to improve the roster or bullpen, he will definitely be a player to keep an eye on.
