VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A biker bar in Port Orange was once the local haunt of a notorious serial killer.

Dubbed the “Last Vacation Bar,” this place is located on South Ridgewood Boulevard and gained notoriety following a serial killer in Florida in the 1990s. Aileen Wuornos He was arrested while drinking beer there.

Wuornos made headlines after being convicted of seven murders in the state, making her one of the most notorious female serial killers in U.S. history.

But on Jan. 9, 1991, undercover detectives found Wuornos at the Last Resort Bar and took him into custody, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to Wesley Brewer, who works at Last Resort, Wuornos was a regular customer and sometimes even stayed the night.

“Not every night, but every once in a while,” Brewer explained. “It would be two or three nights a week.”

He added that mail sent to the bar was still found long after Wuornos was sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection in 2002, but these were mainly magazines and subscriptions.

Although Brewer was not at the bar when Wuornos was arrested, the bar’s founder, Al Bullings, was.

He said the undercover officer was drinking with Wuornos the night he was arrested, and there are many other stories that stemmed from the arrest.

“About two years ago there was a female police officer; He parked it just down the street to support News 6, and when he retired, he came and stayed there all day,” Brewer said. “He got drunk and said: ‘I was here the night they arrested him but I never came. inside!'”

Today, guests and regulars still visit the bar clamoring for a drink, but the business has plenty of merchandise scattered throughout the store, including T-shirts and hot sauce.

And there’s plenty of evidence showing Wuornos’ influence.

Guests exiting through the side back door will encounter a morbid vigil dedicated to Wuornos, complete with information about his aliases, birth name, and the men he has killed.

By the way, the bricks on the bar’s exterior side wall are all painted with messages; Most of them are about serial killers.

Inside the bar are numerous newspaper clippings detailing Wuornos’ story after his arrest.

The bar and Bullings were even featured during the filming of the 2003 movie “Monster,” a retelling of Wuornos’ life (she was portrayed in the film by actress Charlize Theron).

Just down the street, another infamous place connected to Wuornos still stands.

Before his arrest, Wuornos was arrested at 5964 S. Ridgewood Ave. It was reported that he was staying in Room 9 of a motel called “The Fairview Inn” located at .

However, the motel has since been purchased and renamed the “Scoot Inn”.

Despite the change, Wuornos’ room (since renumbered as Room 7) is still there, and brave guests can choose to spend the night there, assuming the room is not currently in use.

News 6 tried to get a look inside, but a guest was already staying there and the manager explained he wasn’t sure when it would be available to watch again.

The Last Resort bar is busy during Bike Week and Biketoberfest, but remains open to customers from 10am to 8pm throughout the week throughout the year.
