Nev Schulman ran the New York Marathon 3 months after breaking his neck

TV’s catfish fisherman won’t be able to run this marathon at breakneck speed.

“I remember the look on every nurse and doctor’s face when they came into the room for the first time … they were expecting me to be some kind of paralyzed, they were so surprised and almost confused,” Schulman, 40, told The Post.

“They were all coming every few hours and doing the same tests. They would touch my feet and say, ‘Do you feel this?’ they would say. . . . “During my first 48 hours in the ICU, I realized how close I had come to potentially never leaving the hospital or walking again.”

The host of MTV’s “Catfish” was riding her bike to pick up her son from camp in the Hamptons on Aug. 5 when she was hit by a truck while trying to swerve into a traffic lane.

“And in those moments when I kind of look over my shoulder. . . traffic was stopped and I actually rear-ended a truck, flew over the handlebars and hit my head on the back of this truck,” he explained.

Doctors at Southampton Hospital discovered he had a broken neck and he was taken to Stony Brook Hospital for surgery.

The Upper East Side native was in the middle of training for a half marathon and asked her doctor when she could run again.

“He said, ‘You’ll be in a neck brace for at least six weeks.’ . . “I definitely don’t expect to run any marathons this year,” said Schulman, who now lives in Williamsburg.

TV star who ran as a guide for blind runners in last year’s marathon Francesco Magisanoagreed to miss the 26.2-mile five-county race this year. Until Francesco texted him.

“I said, ‘Yeah, I feel pretty bad. . . I wouldn’t trust me as your guide,’” Schulman recalled.

“And his response was: ‘Nev, I want to run this with you. I don’t care how fast or slow we go. If you feel there is a chance of doing this, I will wait.”

A six-week follow-up x-ray showed his neck was healing.

Schulman immediately ran his first mile and on Sunday will run his eighth NYC marathon under Upper West Sider Francesco, who also runs New York’s NYC division. Achilles InternationalIt is an organization that helps disabled athletes.

“There are two guides for completely blind athletes; one reporting directly to them, and the other being someone who runs ahead to watch out for obstacles, help move people if necessary, and perhaps most importantly, get water and Gatorade from the stations,” Schulman explained. He will leave with his friend Tom Flaherty because he splits the responsibility.

Schulman, a father of three, spoke with his doctor before agreeing to participate.

“I said, ‘Am I allowed to run?'” he recalled. “And I actually recorded a video of him saying that to show my wife, because I knew she wouldn’t believe me.”
