Penn Yan man faces child endangerment charges, others after violent incident

A Penn Yan man is facing multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, following a domestic dispute in Potter Township.

Jacob A. Thornton, 27, was arrested Nov. 1 after Yates County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on Havens Corners Road.

Thornton is charged with second-degree criminal mischief, criminal obstruction of breathing or circulation, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. Authorities allege Thornton made physical contact with another person in the presence of a child and damaged property that did not belong to him.

Deputy Lane and Sgt. Chisom of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office led the response with assistance from the Penn Yan Police Department and New York State Police. Following his arrest, Thornton was transported to the Yates County Jail where he awaits arraignment in Yates County CAP Court.
