Move to China | NC Republican Senator goes viral after abortion-related email response shared on TikTok

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — A viral email from a North Carolina lawmaker’s office raised eyebrows for allegedly telling a North Carolina woman to leave the country for voicing her concerns. state abortion laws.

Video of the email is circulating all over social media and has been seen more than 200,000 times on TikTok. It all started when Lindsay Talley, a TikTok user from North Carolina, shared an email from her friend who said she had a genetic condition that created life-threatening abnormalities. He wrote a letter to his friend, Republican State Sen. Danny Britt, expressing his concerns about the issue. state abortion laws and the ability to expand his family.

And in response his official email told him to leave the country. Email says “Thank you so much for the email, I’m not exactly sure how we’re stopping you from expanding your family. I suggest you move to China immediately and see how that works for you. If for some reason that fails, Russia is a good thing right now” in the winter and Venezuela in the summer .”

The email was signed by Senator Britt but appears to have been sent by Camille McDougald, Senator Britt’s legislative assistant. In a follow-up email to Talley, McDougald said, “I responded as Senator Britt asked me to. No further comment.”

We have made multiple attempts since 2017 to reach the GOP Senator who represents parts of the Sandhills, including Robeson, Hoke and Scotland counties.

We went to the Raleigh legislative office and the assistant behind the email refused to comment and walked away from us.

In the meantime, this could be a lesson in how to respond to those they serve. Democratic Congressman Wiley Nickel said his office responds to thousands of emails and was surprised to see this kind of response from a fellow lawmaker.

“Anyone who has the honor and privilege of representing voters in Washington or Raleigh must be respectful of the people they represent. We work for them,” Nickel says.
