Popular local seafood restaurant reopens after Hurricane Debby flooding

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Popular seafood restaurant Love’s Seafood and Steak slowly reopened Friday afternoon.

Love’s Seafood has sat on the banks of the Ogeechee River for almost 75 years.

But recently they fell victim to the rising waters of Hurricane Debbie, as the Ogeechee overflowed and flooded nearly the entire restaurant, leaving the restaurant out of service.

But a few days after the water receded, friends, family and staff of the restaurant scrambled to find where they could help.

The reconstruction process, which was estimated to be 86 months, was reduced to two thanks to the dedication of the people around.

“The kitchen was also flooded, but we had a lot of support and it felt good and it felt good to be open again and serve our regular customers,” co-owner Donna Love said.

The restaurant expects a grand reopening on its 75th anniversary on November 15
