It was a busy day for the Cincinnati Reds.

Earlier Friday, the Reds announced multiple roster moves. The moves included four players (Nick Martini, Austin Wynns, Tejay Antone and Ty France) joining Triple-A Louisville. France and Martini would elect free agency to be assigned to Triple-A.

The Reds then announced other moves, some of which will excite Reds fans and some of which will leave them heartbroken.

Starting with a player they will keep, Reds announce they have re-signed left-handed pitcher Brent Suter One-year contract with club option for 2026. The deal will pay Suter $2.25 million in 2025, with his club option in 2026 worth $3 million.

A graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Suter is a beloved member of the Reds and the Cincinnati community. He started 47 games in 2024, where he had a 3.15 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.

But several other players may be about to leave the Queen City as well.

Pitcher Nick Martinez, first, The player declined his option, and pitcher Jakob Junis also declined his mutual option.

Martinez, 34, had a 3.10 ERA in 142.1 innings with the Reds. He bounced back and forth between the starting rotation and the bullpen before injuries forced him into the starting role throughout the season. Martinez thrived towards the end of the year and quickly became a fan (and clubhouse) favorite.

Junis was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Frankie Montas to Milwaukee. The right-hander appeared in 14 games for the Reds and had a 2.85 ERA in 41 innings.

Cincinnati also announced that the team had declined the club option of veteran catcher Luke Maile, also making him a free agent. Despite his popularity, Maile’s performance on the field was not sufficient for a team with postseason aspirations.
