Ex-sergeant jailed for having sexual intercourse with high school student while on duty

EASTON, MD. — The Easton Police Department fired a sergeant found guilty of misconduct.

Jason Dyott was accused of having sexual intercourse with two teenagers, including a high school student, in his patrol vehicle while on duty.

Prosecutors said Dyott shared sexually explicit messages and photos with victims on Snapchat, some of which showed him in uniform.

On Nov. 1, a Talbot County judge ordered Dyott to serve six months of his four-year sentence behind bars.

The judge described Dyott’s behavior as “appalling” and “far beyond disgraceful”.

Dyott’s position was terminated on Halloween.

He had been with the agency since 2008, even spending time on the department’s Policy Review and Hiring Committees.

Easton Police Chief Alan Lowrey released this statement in response to Dyott’s sentencing and firing.

“As the Chief of Police and father of four teenagers, I am grateful to the brave youth in our community who stepped up to protect their friends and brought Mr. Dyott’s actions to the attention of authorities. I am also encouraged by the courage I demonstrated.” Being a police officer is more than a job, it is an acknowledgment of the duty to uphold our laws, with victims and witnesses giving evidence at trial and telling the court at sentencing how much Mr. Dyott’s actions affected him. That Mr. Dyott has chosen to do this is disappointing and maddening to our community, our officers, and me. The Easton Police Department, which violates these duties and serves its own interests at the expense of the youth in our community, is staffed by good cops who accept and honor these duties every day. So we can continue to serve our community without the weight of Mr. Dyott’s immoral actions falling on our shoulders,” Dyott said.
