Wendy’s will close more than 100 “underperforming” restaurants by the end of 2024, officials announced. earnings call on Thursday.

The announcement comes as popular fast-food chains Wendy’s, McDonald’s And burger king Work to win back customers through value dining deals and discounts.

Wendy’s President and Chief Executive Officer Kirk Tanner said the closures were based on “robust review” of individual restaurants. Tanner said closing restaurants is outdated and in “underperforming areas.”

The closure of about 140 restaurants has been accelerated, according to Tanner.

“These are closures that could occur in ’25, ’26 and ’27,” officials said during the call, adding that the same number of stores are expected to open by the end of the year.

Wendy’s did not immediately provide details on the locations of stores expected to close.
