Newport News, VA – The Newport News Police Department is searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Saturday. Around 6:15 a.m., officers arrived at Harpersville Road and Jefferson Ave., where they found a 74-year-old man named Dennis Gene Clarkson unconscious in the roadway.

Preliminary investigations showed that Mr Clarkson was cycling when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. Mr Clarkson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are seeking information from the driver of the white sedan seen traveling west on Harpersville Road just before the crash. Anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the incident is encouraged to submit tips anonymously through P3Tips.com or by calling 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

In this case, tipsters may be eligible to receive a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest. The police department released video footage in hopes of identifying the driver involved.
