The man who confessed to the murder he committed in 2022 was caught on the doorbell camera

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The family of a man killed in a shooting on Father’s Day in 2022 now has justice after two years.

in June 2022Tremont Tobin was shot multiple times outside Gregory Bell’s home and died before reaching the hospital.

Court documents say the doorbell camera recorded the two men talking before Bell pulled out a gun and shot him. Prosecutors said Bell then wiped the gun, placed it next to Tobin and claimed to police that the shooting was in self-defense.

He would ultimately plead guilty to felony charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday.

At sentencing, Tobin’s family told the judge that he was the father and grandfather of nine children and nine grandchildren. Tobin’s mother, Karen Sears, said her family was everything to her and she loved making every holiday or milestone special for her children and grandchildren.

“On our birthday or any other day, I have to go to the cemetery or wish my baby a happy birthday,” Sears told the judge.

In court, Bell gave a statement apologizing to Tobin’s family and again claimed that he shot Tobin out of fear. The family says the video of the murder tells a different story.

“He went there to talk to her,” said Tobin’s fiancée, Leticia Malone. “He wasn’t raising his voice, there was no argument, there was no reason for him to feel threatened.”

Tobin’s family said they still don’t know the motive for the attack and consider Bell a family friend. While seeing him face justice may bring some relief, it won’t heal the loss they will suffer for the rest of their lives.

“He wasn’t afraid,” Sears said. “You were sitting on the porch waiting for my baby. I watched the video. I watched you kill my baby on video. You were not threatened. “I don’t accept your apology and I will never, ever accept your apology because that’s my baby that you took away from me and my family.”
