EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – The two teenagers arrested Wednesday night in the dead of 17-year-old Malachi Young made their first appearance in court Thursday.

Officials say 16-year-old Santana T. Cooper and 17-year-old Lakai Snaden were taken into custody Thursday and booked into the Vanderburgh County Correction Center.

Police say Malachi was with Cooper and Snaden earlier in the day at Eastland Mall.

They say surveillance video from the mall shows the two suspects in the same clothing worn in surveillance video near Tepe Park the night of the murder.

Officers say Cooper and Snaden can also be seen running from the area after the shooting.

Police say they want to thank the businesses and people who stepped up with information and video in the case.

Cooper and Snaden are set to receive formal charges next Wednesday.
