MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Despite rainy conditions, elementary school students in Marquette had Halloween fun on Thursday.

Students took to the halls of Sandy Knoll Elementary School to show off their Halloween costumes. Third grader Natalie Latouneau and Sophomore Ben Huff say it was a full day of activities.

“We did arts and crafts in class,” Huff said. “We did this haunted house thing in our class.”

“(Our teacher) was taping some cups and we had to pass a marble through there, we had to put marshmallows into the cup,” Latouneau said.

Students weren’t the only ones enjoying the fun. Staff and parents say they are also involved. Principal Stacy Brock says some classes have been able to spread Halloween excitement throughout the community.

“Our fifth graders went to Norlite Nursing Home and had a Halloween parade at the nursing home this morning,” Brock said. “It was a great experience for them and they were very excited about it and said they enjoyed it.”

To combat the rainy conditions, the school hosted the parade indoors. Brock explains that maintaining tradition is important for students.

“It allows students to be creative,” Brock said. “Some of them are part of the costume making and it gives them the freedom to be creative and it’s a lot of fun for them.”

In addition to all the festivities, students were given early leave to prepare for trick-or-treating.
