How to navigate closed roads after Taylor Swift concerts in Indy?

The arrival of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Indianapolis means many road closures and traffic changes downtown after the concert on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Similar to how traffic is managed after Colts games at Lucas Oil Stadium, access to Interstate I-70 will be closed at the West Street, Illinois Street and Meridian Street exits when the show begins. According to IMPD, many downtown streets will also be closed each night after the concert to protect pedestrians; the full list is at the end of this story.

So how can drivers get out of closed streets and downtown Indianapolis after a concert?

Exiting the Lucas Oil Stadium area after the Taylor Swift concert

If you’re parked at the concert site, you can use the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police map to plan your exit by following the arrows heading south under I-70.

The only drivers allowed into the stadium grounds at the end of the concert will be parents, guardians and rideshare drivers greeting concertgoers. The section of West South Street between South West Street and South Delaware Street will not be accessible to any other motorists.

Rideshare and parent drop-off and pick-up zones

There will be a pick-up point for parents and rideshare drivers very close by Delaware and South streets From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said parents must be at or line up near the parking lot by 10 p.m. to gain access to open paths in the area that will take them outside.

Once concertgoers are picked up, volunteers will direct traffic flow. From South Delaware Street, drivers can exit the area by heading south on I-70.

The parking lot cannot be used as a car park during the concert.

Only Uber, Lyft and other rideshare drivers will be allowed access to this area. To pick up drivers will have to travel down South West Street and can either continue south under I-70 or travel west on Kentucky Avenue to exit the area.

  • Capitol Avenue to Washington Street to Southern Avenue from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Georgia Street between Illinois Avenue and Capitol Avenue (not available westbound) from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • South Street between Capitol Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Traffic referrals

  • No southbound traffic on Missouri Avenue between Washington Street and Maryland Avenue from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM
  • Southbound West Street at South Street will be diverted to Kentucky Avenue from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
