Wife killed, husband seriously injured in crash in Jackson County

NAPOLEON TWP., Mich. (WILX) – A Jackson County woman is dead and her husband is in serious condition.

On Wednesday, October 30, Napoleon Town police and fire departments were dispatched to the accident that occurred at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Napoleon Avenue.

There, first responders discovered a Kia SUV had crashed into a semi-truck traveling westbound on Brooklyn Road. Officials believe Kia attempted to turn left from southbound Napoleon to eastbound Brooklyn and drive directly into halfcourt.

The semi tried to avoid the Kia but to no avail.

The Kia was driven by 79-year-old Napoleon Gary Burnette. His wife, Ruth Ann, 80, was also a passenger.

Both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Henry Ford Hospital. Ruth would later die from her injuries.

Gary is in serious but stable condition.

The 40-year-old semi driver from Ironwood was also taken to the hospital but was later released.
