Crowds gathered in Los Angeles for the fifth game of the World Series turned rowdy and engaged in illegal activities Wednesday night after the LA Dodgers. officially won the championshipresulted in at least a dozen arrests.

The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in one of the greatest World Series in decades. The matchup was particularly notable because it featured two of Major League Baseball’s most prominent and historic teams.

A crowd on the West Side set fire to a city bus, broke into stores and set off fireworks Wednesday night. Some members of the celebration also threw objects at police in downtown Los Angeles after police officers told the crowd to disperse. No injuries reported, According to the Associated Press.

“The vast majority of last night’s celebrations were joyful and peaceful,” Mayor Karen Bass said at a news conference Thursday. “As always, we will work to keep Angelenos safe… (and) violence of any kind will not be tolerated.”

Celebrations in the city are expected to continue this week, including Friday’s victory parade followed by a celebration at Dodgers stadium. The Los Angeles Police Department will be on high alert for the rest of the week and next week for the presidential election.

LAPD officials encouraged partiers not to set off illegal fireworks in their celebrations or take over city intersections this weekend. City officials also urged fans who did not attend Friday’s events due to heavy traffic from the parade and celebrations to work remotely that day.
