Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) arrested a member of a gold smugglers syndicate in Labanchara district last night (November 13) and seized eight pieces of gold bars from his possession.

The arrested person was identified as 36-year-old Abdul Awal, son of Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Alikamora Dakhsinpara under Chandina upazila in Cumilla.

Labanchara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Towhiduzzaman told BSS that a team from Labanchara Police Station set up a check post at Sachibunia Biswa Road area in the city last night and they came to know that a gold smuggler was also with him. The gold bars were heading to the Satkhira border on the route.

When a bus coming from Dhaka reached the checkpoint, the police team stopped the bus and arrested Awal.

Police also said that they removed 8 gold bars from his abdomen using a special technique.

A case was registered at Labanchara Police Station in this regard.
