Restaurant chain franchisee files for bankruptcy, closes 8 locations

An Applebee’s franchise in Kansas City, Kansas, has closed eight restaurants after filing for bankruptcy, according to reports.

Kansas City Star Apple Central reports that KC LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the District of Kansas.

Applebee’s president Tony Moralejo said: Country’s Restaurant News closings were based on financial decisions.

“Applebee’s restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees. “The closure of eight restaurants in the Kansas City market appears to be the result of financial circumstances and decisions made by the franchisee,” he said. “This situation is unfortunate, and we continue to believe that the Kansas City area is a great neighborhood for Applebee’s restaurants. “We are exploring options for the future of these restaurants.”

Nation’s Restaurant News said the franchise’s total liabilities are between $10 million and $50 million to 200 to 999 creditors, including state sales and liquor tax agencies, real estate and development entities and foodservice distributor Sysco.

It was stated that Apple Central’s assets are between 1 million and 10 million dollars.

The franchise has had difficulties in the past. It closed seven restaurants, including one where two Black women were falsely accused of not paying their bills. According to Nation’s Restaurant News.

Another Applebee’s franchise, Louisiana Apple recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Many restaurant chains have struggled with bankruptcy this year, including Red Lobster, Buca di Beppo and Tijuana Flats.
