Yellowstone star Kelly Reilly ‘can’t talk’ about show’s future as Beth Dutton

Many fans assume that Reilly is an American and not the soft-spoken Brit he actually is.

He told me that when Yellowstone started he “didn’t do any press” because he wanted people to believe in his character.

“People talk to me like Beth is real,” she says. “We all talk about Beth as if she were a real-life person.

“I’ll always be a little disappointed when people meet me. I went to the local bakery and the lady said, ‘I’d love to drink with you.’

“I know what he means; he wants to drink with Beth. People want to feel a part of this energy… someone so connected to their primal self.

“And we’re so disconnected. We’re all on our phones, on social media. It’s like nothing’s happening unless someone takes a picture of it. Beth is the opposite of that. She’s just that, alive.”

To say Reilly’s character is in a difficult situation would be an understatement.

Beth survived attempted rape, attempted murder, crushing heartbreak, and betrayal by family members.

He even shouts: “I’m the rock therapists standing up to themselves.”

Reilly describes Beth as a “powerhouse” and tells me it was “such a fun adventure to take on her.”

“I’m a very introverted person,” he adds. “I have no dreams of revenge in my life.

“There’s something really exciting about playing him. I feel like I got an adrenaline rush for four months while I was playing him, and when I’m done I feel like I just have to go back to my quiet, boring life. And I’m so grateful for my quiet, boring life after playing him.”

“But every summer comes around, I start preparing again and the scripts start coming in, and I get excited again to meet him.

“I’m fully aware of his talent as a character, but I lock him in a padlocked box for six months of the year.”
