Louisville Metro Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Rejects renewal application for a popular Original Highlands pub license to sell alcoholic beveragesAccording to a letter from the ABC director obtained by The Courier Journal.

In the letter released Tuesday, Director Bradley Silveria denied Baxter’s 942 Bar and Grill’s application for eight types of licenses related to the sale of alcohol. Silveria blamed various acts of violence that occurred during performances of a music act routinely held at the bar as the primary reason for the decision.

In the letter, Silveria said four separate shootings occurred at Baxter’s 942 Bar and Grill while he was hosting performances by DJ Lil Jerry.

Silveria specifically addressed two shooting incidents that occurred during DJ Lil Jerry’s performance; In the armed attack on August 11 Michael Bachelor shot dead at the bar and another “shooting-related attack” occurred on October 5. Attached to the letter were ads advertising DJ Lil Terry performances that coincided with the shootings.

“Louisville Metro Government alleges that the licensee was irresponsible in rehiring ‘DJ Lil Jerry’ after the first critical incident in which the public was endangered by the performance,” the letter reads. The statement is included.

According to the letter, ABC determined that renewing the license would be contrary to the interests of public health and safety. Officials also said the department has received messages from community members asking for the license to be denied.

Baxter’s 942 Bar and Grill has a 30-day appeal period and may request a hearing before the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control Board during that period.

The Courier Journal could not immediately reach Baxter’s 942 Bar and Grill management for comment.
