It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Anne “Annie” Josephine Adcock Evans on October 25, 2024. The mother had been a resident of Magnolia Terrace, Galion, Ohio, since February of this year, with her principal residence in Chiswick. Location in Galion, Ohio.

Anne was born on April 27, 1926 in McMinnville, Tennessee. He lost his mother when he was 2 years old and was raised by his grandmother, Adcock, on the family farm, which was land given to the family for their participation in the American Revolutionary War. With the passing of her grandmother, Anne would live with her married sister, Mary Lou (Adcock) Judkins, in Oakridge, TN. Anne attended Oakridge High School, where she was a star basketball player at her local high school, and after graduating in 1945, she would move to Columbus, Ohio. Interesting note… The mother would stop at a friend’s house to pick up her basketball jersey and drop it off after practice or games… It was a time when women’s sports were frowned upon in the “Old South”! However, years later, he was delighted to attend his grandchildren’s various sporting events. One particular victory he remembers with joy was attending his granddaughter Kirsten Evans’ Michigan State Spartan football team defeat the University of Michigan Wolverines.

Anne attended Ohio State University where she would meet on a blind date with a returning World War II Veteran enrolled in the OSU Civil Engineering program. The two would marry in 1950 and eventually move to Galion, Ohio, where she joined her husband, Charles “Chuck” O. Evans, at Galion Iron Works. The couple would have 3 children; John O. Evans of Farmington Hills, MI, Choel Evans (deceased) of Galion, OH, Amy Jane “Evans” Buckley (deceased) of Incline Village, NV. He is survived by his son-in-law, Robert Buckley of Incline Village, NV, and 5 grandchildren; Alissa Ashley “Evans” Censoni married Bryan Censoni of Portland, OR, Kirsten Evans of Portland, OR, Teagan Evans and Lindsey Anne Evans. in West Bloomfield, MI, McKenna Buckely of Incline Village, NV, and great-granddaughter Siena Censoni of Portland, OR. Anne’s brother Noah Adcock and sister Mary Lou Judkins have since passed away. Anne also has numerous nieces and nephews including Shelley Essig, Caroline Hall, Bob Judkins, Jan Wainwright, Renee O’Regan, Gordon Adcock, Michael Adcock, Debbie Bittenworth, Diane Summerville, JoAnne Adcock, Mary Beth Smith, Lisa Merry and his nephew survived. and Sigrid Merry.

Anne was very active in her community and enriched it in numerous ways: She was a long-time member of the Community Christian Church, Galion Country Club, Bridge Club, and Garden Club, making many lifelong friends. He enjoyed volunteering as a Cub Scout leader, Troop 76, and as an elementary classroom teacher’s aide… His passion for children continued as a Bible study teacher. His 30-year participation in the electoral college was a patriotic responsibility he felt obligated to fulfill. Anne was honored to be the Olentangy Chapter’s Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) Trustee, representing the organization at events in Washington, DC. He received the Crawford County Republican of the Year award for his tireless dedication to electing Ronald Regan in the 1985 Presidential campaign, and he would tell visitors at his home with great pride how he personally signed President Regan’s award plaque. She worked as an Administrator for the Ohio State Publishing Department and was a homemaker and proud mother.

The mother was completely devoted to and in love with her husband “CO”. They can often be found working together in the garden or garden, combining their talents in the kitchen to prepare a delicious treat, simply sitting side by side reading a book, or attending various activities with their many friends. The couple were truly “soulmates,” and “Chuck” loved and appreciated his wife so much that he was saving his money until he could afford to build her the house of her dreams… Anne had always been a Southern girl, and Anne was secretly “old South style” with “pillars.” completed. In 1968, “CO” surprised him with plans to build the home he could only dream of! It was a warm home that he was proud of throughout his life, and he was fortunate to be able to graciously host family and friends until his 97th birthday.

Anne was known as a modest and gracious woman who was always willing to join in conversation. His southern hospitality was loved by all. Any visitor would be warmly greeted at the door and invited for a chat and a cup of coffee. He was a tribute and resource to the Galion Community; Her beautiful smile and kind spirit will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Galion Community Christian Church, 6195 OH-19, Galion, OH 44833. Visiting hours will be at 10 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m.
