The family of a 78-year-old man who died after being hit by a car paid tribute to a “true gentleman”.

James Joseph Corrigan died in hospital after being struck by a green Peugeot 308 on Bentley Road in Doncaster on October 18.

The great-grandfather was a professional boxer before becoming a well-known contractor in the city, his family said in a statement.

They said: “He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
