Consumer Reports shares the best poop picking techniques and devices for dog owners

It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it. We’re talking about picking up what your dog leaves behind. Dogs’ feces can potentially infect humans if you don’t clean up their waste.

Consumer Reports has information on the best tools and techniques for cleaning up that poop.

Lauren Anthony is a veterinary technician and over the years she has become a go-to source of information on what to do with number two. Here’s what Lauren thinks of Consumer Reports’ poop scoop picks!

First, the most Ergonomic Pooch Approved Products are the GoGo Stick Catch-N-Go. If you aim correctly, your dog can do his business directly into the bag and the job is done, you can take the bag out and throw it away. The rod is adjustable, which helps you reach it. Lauren says small dogs may be uncomfortable with the catch feature.

Afterwards we will go for a walk in the park with The Most Portable. Here is the DogBuddy Portable Dog Poop Scoop. It has a clip so you can attach it to your backpack or to your dog’s collar, and it doesn’t look like a poop scoop. It replaces having to use your hands to pick up hot samples so you don’t have to feel that sensation or possibly having a hole in the bag and getting your hand dirty.

Finally, the Editor’s Choice goes to the Lever and Hammer Poop Shovel Rotating Litter and Rake Dog Poop Shovel. Suitable for large dogs or multiple dogs. Throw it directly into the trash without a bag, and then throw it directly into the trash. Lauren says if you don’t tidy your garden for a few days, the scoop will help get the job done.

Consumer Reports also evaluated five poop bags.

Editor’s Choice goes to the Amazon Basics Dog Poop Leakproof Bags with Dispenser and Leash Clip. It’s a budget-friendly option, especially if you have more than one dog.

Whether you pick it up with a tool or bend over and pick it up with a bag in hand, just do it! — After all, they are your best friend.

Consumer Reports also evaluated the most durable bags and stylish dispensers. You can read these articles on the Consumer Reports website.
