The S.C. restaurant co-owned by actor Bill Murray is suddenly closing. Here’s what we know

Rutledge Cab Company, a Charleston restaurant known for its popular burgers and celebrity ownership, has closed permanently. Lunch that same day was the last meal served at the restaurant, according to a sudden announcement shared on social media Monday afternoon.

“It has been our honor and privilege to serve our loyal customers. We are grateful for their friendship and patronage,” partner Brad Creger wrote in an Oct. 28 post. “We also want to thank our wonderful staff, past and present.”

Entrepreneur Creger co-owns Rutledge Cab Company with actor Bill Murray and baseball manager Mike Veeck. Together, the three renovated the abandoned gas station at 1300 Rutledge Boulevard and opened the restaurant in 2012.

Creger, Murray and Veeck will retain the property while Rutledge Cab Company closes its doors for good.

“We look forward to throwing the keys to a new tenant and watching from the sidelines as the landlord of the property,” the announcement said. “The decision to close Rutledge Cab Company will accelerate this process and lead to a new restaurant occupying this popular NoMo location.”

The posts shared on Facebook and Instagram do not detail the reasons for Rutledge Cab Company’s closure or explain why the news was announced on the same day the restaurant closed.
