WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Wichita Fire Department says former WFD accelerator detection K-9 Sporty died Wednesday.

Sporty retired from the department in 2015 after a five-year tenure. It belonged to retired fire chief Stuart Bevis.

He was unofficially known as City Hall’s 11th floor guard dog, but has spent the last nine years getting used to eating from a bowl, resting with his owner, and searching for whatever bacon he can find.

Sportive was 15 years old.
