GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – A Georgetown man is accused of killing his neighbor’s cat.

The incident took place on Green Lane on September 22.

Allegedly, when the cat’s owners returned home that evening, they found their cat lying in the grass, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The cat was taken to the vet but had to be euthanized.

The next day, deputies visited 52-year-old Christopher Jones to talk about what had happened.

In the criminal complaint, it was stated that Jones admitted to shooting the cat with a rifle, and that the cat was on his property and was causing a disturbance by climbing on their vehicles and leaving paw prints.

Jones told deputies he made no attempt to contact the cat’s owner to let them know about the problem and felt there was no need to do so, the complaint states. Jones told deputies he wasn’t sure who the cat belonged to and didn’t contact anyone after shooting it.

Jones is accused of torturing a dog or cat. This charge now becomes a felony after the Ethan Act goes into effect in 2024. The law makes torturing a dog or cat a Class D misdemeanor in all cases.
