MONTREAL – Montreal police say a 53-year-old man was stabbed with a sharp object by a fellow patient who shared a hospital room.

They said the victim suffered serious injuries but was expected to survive.

Police were called to the French-language super hospital in downtown Montreal, known as CHUM, around 1:15 p.m.

Construction Véronique Dubuc said that the 35-year-old male suspect attacked his roommate with a sharp object and hospital staff intervened.

The victim suffered serious upper body injuries but was quickly stabilized by hospital staff.

Police are continuing to investigate and do not yet know the reason for the attack.
