Some sections of the Roman Catholic Church still fail to secure clergy. sexual abuse adequately reported Pope Francis‘ The child protection commission said on Tuesday, raising concerns about a “lack of transparency” in the Vatican’s handling of the cases.

In its first annual report, the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors investigated the protection protocols of bishops in 17 different parts of the world and how the Church’s central administration handled cases.

“The Commission at times identified a troubling deficiency in reporting structures and victim/survivor accompaniment services,” the report said. “The Commission identified a persistent concern regarding the transparency of the procedures and legal processes of the Roman Curia (the central administration of the church). “The Commission notes that this will continue to increase distrust among the loyalists, particularly among the victim/survivor community.”

The preparation of the report was chaired by Maud de Boer Buquicchio, a former UN special rapporteur on child sexual abuse and a member of the commission established by the pope in 2014. Francis asked the commission to prepare a report two years ago. Annual report on child protection initiatives, in which he wants to help ensure “transparency and accountability” over abuse.
