13-year-old boy shot dead in Cebu, two days before his birthday

CEBU CITY, (Philippines): A 13-year-old boy was shot dead by yet to be identified assailants while he was resting on the second floor of a house under construction at Sitio Lahing-Lahing 2 in Brgy. Mabolo will be in Cebu City on Monday evening, October 28.

The victim was identified by police as Kenjie De Jesus.

After being shot, he still managed to evade the suspects and jump from the second floor, but he still died from his gunshot wounds.

He was supposed to celebrate his 14th birthday on October 30th.

It was reported that the fatal shooting occurred around 22.30 on Monday.

Kenjie lived in the barangay (village) with his mother, Michelle De Jesus, an assistant at the pharmacy.

According to Mabolo police, they received a call about a shooting in the area, prompting their immediate response.

Responding officers found the victim’s body on the corner side of the ground floor with multiple gunshot wounds. During the evaluation, no signs of life were seen in the child.

A witness, whose identity will be withheld due to security concerns, told authorities he was about to fall asleep when he heard the sound of a firearm of unknown caliber going off three times.

The investigation showed that the victim, while resting in the corridor of a house still under construction, was attacked by two unidentified armed assailants, allegedly wearing a bonnet.

The two attackers went up the stairs and shot the child, who managed to jump down from the second floor of the house.

Unfortunately, the child died due to the gunshot wounds he received during the attack.

Neighborhood residents reported that they saw the attackers leaving the area shortly after the incident.

He was killed before his birthday

In an interview with local radio station dyHP. The boy’s aunt “Jenjen” explained that the victim was influenced by his friends and got into illegal drugs.

Despite repeated warnings, Kenjie did not listen.

Jenjen added that her nephew had a bad attitude and hurt his mother when scolded.

Kenjie dropped out of school earlier this year, and his mother initially planned to send him stateside.

On the day of the incident, he left home after his mother fell asleep.

According to Jenjen, Kenjie was supposed to celebrate his 14th birthday on Wednesday, October 30th.

His mother was preparing to cook for the celebration after giving him P500 on Tuesday.

But before he could even begin, he received the tragic news that his only son had been murdered.

As of this writing, the police are conducting an investigation to identify the suspects behind the child’s death and determine the reason behind the murder. – Philippine Daily Investigator/ANN
