Chicago police said the stabbing happened around 2:41 p.m. in the 800 block of North State Street. While there was a verbal argument between a 58-year-old man and a female suspect, the woman took out a sharp object and cut off the man’s head.

Officials said that after the stabbing, trains were stopped and passengers were put on CTA buses.

The injured man was taken to Northwestern Hospital and is in stable condition, CFD officials said. Chicago police said the female attacker then fled southbound on Wabash Avenue.

The CTA said the Red Line train line, the 95th, was delayed while Chicago police were on the scene but has since resumed normal service. Trains were temporarily diverted to elevated southbound tracks.

Further information was not immediately available.

Chicago police are continuing to investigate. No arrests were made.
