Detroit car theft victim speaks out after police take 4 suspects into custody

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Police Department has arrested four suspects, three men and a woman, involved in a string of car thefts in the city.

One of the most recent incidents occurred at the Marathon Gas station at Davison and Ewald Circle. It was 22:24 on Saturday, October 26th. A silver Infiniti is getting ready to hit the road. However, what happened next shocked the society.

“I’ve been around Detroit my whole life, I’ve never experienced fear like this.” NT said

The owner of the vehicle, NT, did not want to share his full name for security reasons, but said thinking about that fateful day still gives the 51-year-old shivers.

“I was thinking to myself, God, is this how I’m going to die?” NT said

In the footage, two armed suspects are seen approaching the vehicle. One moves towards the passenger side firing a long gun at the ground… the other approaches NT from the driver’s side.

NT said “It was very fast”

Both suspects had NT in their sights.

“I looked, just turned my head and took off,” NT said.

After the passengers fled to save their lives, the suspects fled with the vehicle. 7 News Detroit Faraz Javed showed the footage to NT

“How do you feel looking at this now?” Faraz asked.

“I’m actually grateful to still be here,” NT said

A black car also left the gas station 30 seconds ago. The vehicle was driven by 18-year-old Zyad Aiyash.

“I thought, what if we didn’t go… what would happen?!” he says.

Zyad also works across the street as a gas station attendant and says he can’t stop watching the security footage. I also noticed his open carry firearm.

“Why do you need to carry it?” Faraz asked.

“This place is dangerous,” Zyad said.

“Do you all carry it?” Faraz asked.

“Yes, we all carry it. He has one, your boss has one, and your night shift has one,” Zyad said.

“Have you done anything different since the incident?” Faraz asked.

“I pretty much try to stay home at night, unless I have to go out. Because you never know when your life is going to end. It can disappear in an instant,” NT said.

While the police seized the SUV, the suspects were referred to the prosecutor’s office.
