Stabbing suspect arrested after trying to escape police in Kennewick neighborhood

Police captured a stabbing suspect after a chase in the eastern Kennewick neighborhood Monday morning.

Jorge Rangel, 22, and another man got into an alcohol-fueled argument at his home in the 200 block of East First Avenue, Kennewick Commander Isaac Merkl told the Tri-City Herald.

At one point, Rangel allegedly stabbed the other man in the back, Merkl said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital around 4:50 a.m. and medical personnel called police. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Police initially could not find Rangel. Later, around 10 a.m., the police were notified that he had returned home. When they arrived, he reportedly tried to escape but was caught a block away.

Rangel was booked into the Benton County jail for investigation of first-degree assault.
