LOWELL, Ohio (WTAP) – Two men were taken into custody following a shooting on 5th Avenue in Lowell, Ohio.

Thomas L. Shank of Lowell was arrested after barricading himself in his home with a firearm and engaging in a shootout with the Special Response Team, according to the Washington County Sheriff.

The call came at 4.14pm and led to a stalemate. A bargain was made, the person was detained, and the weapon was confiscated.

Authorities had reason to believe that a shot had come from inside the residence.

Everyone in the community was isolated and there was no further threat to the public.

Shank is currently being transported to the hospital.

At the time of the incident, Tony Whitekind of Lowell arrived on the scene in an intoxicated state with a firearm in his hand.

He was arrested for possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Whitekind is currently being held in the Washington County Jail.
