Tyrique Stevenson celebrated way too early on Sunday.

Before the Washington Commanders’ winning Hail Mary, the Chicago Bears cornerback was seen taunting the home fans as he awaited a throw from quarterback Jayden Daniels, and Stevenson put the ball in the hands of receiver Noah Brown for the win.

In Stevenson’s defense, the odds of Daniels completing the Hail Mary at his own 48-yard line were slim to none. Even after the game started, Stevenson found time to continue taunting the fans as Daniels hung around for more than 10 seconds before finally releasing the ball.

Stevenson’s actions before the touchdown certainly weren’t the only reason the Bears lost on Sunday, but had he been in better position to make plays, Chicago might have come away with the win.

Instead, the Bears fell to 4-3 on the season, and Stevenson was forced to apologize to fans and teammates on social media.

I apologize to Chicago and my teammates for the lack of awareness and focus…. The game isn’t over until the zeros hit the clock. I can’t accept anything as it is. Notes are taken, healing occurs. #Ayış

The Commanders, meanwhile, had their best start to the season since 2008, but that season ended with a second-half collapse as Washington failed to reach the playoffs. The Commanders also lost 4-0 at home for the first time since 2005.

Much of their success can be attributed to star rookie Jayden Daniels, who had 1,736 passing yards, seven touchdowns and just two interceptions, along with 424 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Buoyed by Sunday’s miraculous Hail Mary, the Commanders will face the New York Giants next week as they look to inch closer to their first postseason appearance since 2020.
