Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle: What Lewis Hall said

Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall talks to BBC Radio Newcastle about the Chelsea defeat: “I think we played well in some parts of the game and that really sums up our whole season. We performed well in all the games but we were let down by the periods where we were a little sloppy. I think that’s what happened today.”

His assist to Alexander Isak: “It was actually a very good game on the right wing. A lot of people were involved and I think the timing of everything was good.

“Harvey (Barnes)’s pass to me on the overlap was perfectly timed and Alex’s (Isak) run into the box was also very well timed. It was a good team goal and something we could have done more of.”

On whether he feels the team has made progress this season: “I think in the last three or four games, since the Manchester City game, we’ve shown a lot in games for fans and people outside to look at and be impressed by.

“We looked back at ourselves and said, if we can keep doing that and be more consistent throughout the 90 minutes, then I think we have a good chance of moving up the rankings.”

On his return to Stamford Bridge: “I knew what I had been through before, so it wasn’t really on my mind to be honest. I’m playing for Newcastle now and I’m really happy here. I was just coming here to get three points.

“Of course, when you come back to a stadium you’ve played in before, good memories come back, but I was just focusing on getting the team a win.”

A few days later St. On meeting Chelsea again at St. James’ Park: “We know Chelsea have a very deep squad, they almost have two XIs, so whoever they play, we know they will have a really good team.

“But we have some options and we know we are good enough to win this game, especially at home.”
