Patriots’ Drake Maye Leaves Game With Apparent Concussion

UPDATE:

Maye was confirmed to have a concussion and was officially ruled out of the game against the Jets.

The New England Patriots have added rookie Drake Maye to their roster over the last two weeks, and so far the rookie is showing a lot of promise. But the young quarterback left the game with what appeared to be a concussion.

Maye had to be evaluated in the blue medical tent and then went straight to the locker room. If he suffers a concussion, the young quarterback will be sidelined from the remainder of the game and will have to clear protocol before he can suit up again.

Although Jacoby Brissett was benched in favor of Maye, he is now benched as well.

Maye was to have Good game before coming out with obvious concussion. The rookie was 3-for-6 passing for 23 yards but had a much more impressive 46-yard pass down the field for the touchdown.

The Patriots face the New York Jets in an important divisional matchup. Both teams have struggled in 2024, but the Patriots face a 1-7 record if they lose today. At this point, seven losses in the season could prevent the team from making the playoffs.

Worse still, if Maye is sidelined for several weeks with a concussion, that would put the team back in the same position with Brissett at the helm. That doesn’t mean Brissett isn’t a solid veteran, but Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was very confident that Maye could lead the team to some much-needed wins.

The problem with bringing Maye into the game is that the Patriots’ offensive line is shaky. He is also a very good runner and will always face a little more danger when trying to make plays with his feet.

At the time of this writing, the Jets lead the team with 13 points, while the Patriots are right behind them with seven points. It’s still anyone’s game. Now New England will have to see if Brissett can come in and restart the offense.

Maye is scheduled to undergo further testing to determine whether he actually suffered a concussion. If this is approved, he will need to clear protocol to return to the field. This protocol may take several weeks depending on the severity of the injury.

For now, Brissett will step in and hope to score some goals for the Patriots.
