Monaghan SFC: Scotstown beat Clontibret to win eighth title in 10 years

Scotstown won their eighth Monaghan Senior Football Championship title in 10 years by beating Clontibret 1-10 to 0-8.

Jack McCarron scored the only goal of the match in the 39th minute when he brought down Clontibret in his own defense and slotted into an empty net about 30 yards out with goalkeeper Darren McDonnell off his line.

The first half was tit-for-tat, with Scotstown leading by 0-5 and 0-4 at half-time. But after McCarron’s goal they never looked like losing.

Rory Beggan converted twice from dead balls for the winners, Conor McCarthy took action with a ball from play and Jack McDevitt nailed the game’s score from the outside of his boot.

Clontibret drew on a wealth of experience, including Vinny Corey, 41, Dessie Mone, 40, and Conor McManus, 36, but they could not pull off the upset.
