Red Deer Rebels beat Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-4

The Hurricanes weathered an early storm on Saturday but ultimately fell, losing 5-4 to the Rebels in a game in Red Deer.

Despite trailing 13-3 in the first period, the Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Miguel Marques.

Red Deer equalized the score five minutes into the second period with a goal from Beckett Hamilton, starting a six-goal period.

The Hurricanes got a power play goal from Noah Chadwick, but 13 seconds later Red Deer tied the game on a goal from Matthew Gard.

The Rebels took the lead at 12:20 with a goal from Carson Birnie, then a goal from Talon Brigley to make it 4-2 to take the lead by two.

The Hurricanes took one back late in the period when Gavin Lesiuk scored his first WHL goal, leaving the score at 4-3 Red Deer after two.

Red Deer took the lead 5-3 with Samuel Drancak’s goal at 9:09 in the third period.

With just over three minutes remaining, Lethbridge made it a one-goal game with a goal from Brayden Edwards, but that was as close as the Hurricanes would get.

The defeat was Lethbridge’s fourth consecutive away defeat. The Hurricanes’ next game is Wednesday in Lethbridge against the Medicine Hat Tigers.
