Pete Price issues ‘sad’ update as Radio City prepares to leave famous tower

Pete Price has reacted to Bauer Media’s announcement that he will be leaving St Johns Beacon, saying it is a “sad day”. The tower has been home to Bauer stations and teams since 2000.

However, Bauer Media released a statement today confirming that the station will be leaving the iconic tower and airing its final shows there in December. A spokesman said: “We are incredibly proud to be part of the vibrant history of Grade II listed St Johns Beacon. This next step allows us to invest in facilities that better support our vision and evolving needs.”

“St Johns Beacon’s final programs will air on Tuesday, December 24. After this date, Greatest Hits Radio Breakfast will broadcast nationally from Bauer’s state-of-the-art Northwest headquarters, while Hits Radio Liverpool Breakfast will continue to broadcast from Bauer city. “


Pete was known for his radio phone-in appearances on shows on Radio City before parting ways with the broadcast company in 2020. The DJ took to social media platform X to react to today’s update.

He said: “What a sad announcement. Bauer Media is leaving the St John’s Beacon radio city tower today.” #Christmas. I’ve had the most amazing career, spending most of my time in that iconic tower on late night radio helping people at night. It’s a really sad day.”

Although the decision has been made not to renew the lease on the building, Bauer Media Audio continues to lease the Radio City 96.7 sign and is currently consulting with the landlord and relevant planning authorities about changing the sign to Hits Radio.

The news is the latest in recent changes to Radio City. It was announced last year that the breakfast show would merge with sister station Rock FM (now Hits Radio Lancashire), while City has been sharing its network programs with other Hits Radio stations for some time.
