It’s the most wonderful time of the year… don’t wait, it’s Christmas. But if you’re in the spooky mood and have young children, Halloween can feel even more magical and fun; especially since you don’t have to spend a lot of money to make it special.

But there’s one place you might find yourself handing over dollars, or at least waving your Apple Pay wildly: the pumpkin patch. Taking a trip to your local farm—whether it’s real or a makeshift one where pumpkins, some hay bales, and a bounce house take up the parking lot for a few weeks—has become a rite of passage for families on Halloween, and many of them are celebrity-affiliated.

Even before Instagram, stars from the A-list to the stay-out-of-my-way list could be seen grinning flawlessly while aggressively making memories in pumpkin patches across the country (or just those near Los Angeles). However, since social media came into play, this phenomenon has grown a lot. Your friendly local farmer (or entrepreneur dressing up as a farmer for October) is no fool: these quirky little patches now come equipped with all the accessories and backdrops a famous face or up-and-coming influencer needs to nail that Insta post. Sure, nature is beautiful, but doesn’t it look even better when it’s marred by a giant hashtag etched in a terrible font on a plastic fence?

But other than the fact that some of these stars may be contractually obligated to look like they’re having the best day of their lives, what else is different about a celebrity trip to the pumpkin patch?

Everybody’s doing what they’re supposed to do

They have a hat on while you try to get your screaming or just frowning kid out of the car. Spiderman Pajama top, a tutu, and maybe the odd pair of socks adorned with some peanut butter, it seems the famous progeny go through some sort of shaping and steam-cleaning process before they’re seen in the light of day. Or maybe they were born this way? Because somehow, celebrity kids arrive at the patch looking perfectly calm, content, and coordinated, smiling dutifully in photos rather than fidgeting, crying, or declaring they need to go to the bathroom at the crucial moment.

What is the right shoe for a farm, even if it is fake? Muddy old boots? Worn sneakers? No, heels. At least if you’re famous and even the pumpkin patch is your catwalk. It doesn’t really matter if the shoes in question are uncomfortable or impractical if you have a driver to whisk you away after the photos are over, as well as a maid at home to dust off any stray hay, mud, or pumpkin droppings.

When it comes to makeup, you don’t need a plump face and a professional blow dryer to grab Jack o’Lantern supplies with your kids, right? Wrong again! But there are exceptions: Jennifer Garner‘s healthy approach seems more like something left behind We may apply.

They’re big, they’re bright, they’re orange, they’re born to be photographed; We don’t just mean the cast. Sunset Sale. We’ve never witnessed a pumpkin patch with a velvet-roped VIP area, but when we compare celebs’ pumpkin hauls to our own, we might feel a little transformed and suspicious. Do celebrities have the natural ability to spot the perfect pumpkin? Or does Ol’ Farmer Jack cautiously reserve the best examples for the biggest stars and leave the rest? We With misshapen, oozing residue that looks like it’s been kicked?

OK, this has a lot to do with geography. Many stars live in parts of the country where fall is a leafier extension of summer, so pumpkin patch trips don’t involve outerwear, ominous gray skies, and a sense of urgency to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. the weather is turning. Good for them. Dealing with unpredictable weather makes everything more memorable, right? Who wants to wear crop tops and shorts in October anyway?

Sometimes you don’t want to blend in with the crowd just to make the kids happy, in which case you need a pumpkin man. Chrissy Teigen she clearly has a pumpkin man. Last year’s Halloween display was a sight to behold, and we have a feeling she didn’t personally carry them home with her bare hands or have to live up to the expectations of a little kid who requested 37 pumpkins and you said they could only have one.

So, if there’s a pumpkin shortage in your area, it’s because some celebrity or influencer has thrown them all together to create an incredible, Instagrammable display. No pity, just imagine the smell when these things start to rot and they have to find a way to get rid of them (okay, so they probably have a man for that too).
