A. florida woman The suspect, accused of strangling her boyfriend in a suitcase, was found guilty of murder on Friday after a 10-day trial.

Sarah Boone, 46, was arrested and charged in the February 2020 murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres, 42, at his home. Winter Park, Floridaapartment.

After 90 minutes of deliberation, jurors agreed on a verdict against him Friday evening. He had previously denied the charges second degree murder.

Prosecutors say Boone pinned Torres inside a suitcase during a drunken game of hide-and-seek, hit him with a baseball bat and then left him there overnight until he died of asphyxiation.

Graphic cell phone video of Torres struggling on the green bag was shown and remained at center during the hearingalong with the couple’s dysfunctional relationship.

In the video of Torres inside the suitcase, Torres can be heard saying, “Sarah, I can’t breathe, baby.”

“That’s up to you,” he replies.

“Sarah, I can’t breathe,” he said again.

“That’s your responsibility,” Boone responded.

911 call

At 1:01 pm on February 24, 2020, Boone called 911 to report that her boyfriend, Torres Jr., had died at their home.

In the sound, Obtained by WOFL“My boyfriend is dead,” she was heard saying.

She told 911 dispatchers that she and her boyfriend “were playing last night and we played when I put her in a suitcase.”

“It’s kind of a hide-and-seek thing,” he said.

He said he “passed out” and woke up to find Torres unresponsive and not breathing in the bag.

“I don’t know what happened,” he said. “There was blood coming from his mouth. It was purple.”

Boone said he tried to give her CPR.

“Nothing happened. It’s purple,” he said.

The woman is expected to be sentenced Dec. 2 and faces life in prison, the Orange County State’s Attorney’s Office said. in one release.

Boone took the stand in his own defense during the trial, claiming he had no intention of killing Torres.

He also claimed his actions were self-defense and claimed that Torres had harassed him before and did not intend to harm him.

Prosecutors in Orange County disagreed, writing in a statement that the woman’s testimony “contradicted statements she made and video evidence that showed her taunting the victim as she begged to be removed from the suitcase.”
