STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Six people suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at an apartment building in West Brighton on Saturday.

The incident began around 4:30 p.m. at a building in the Markham Gardens apartment complex, 1470 Richmond Terrace, an FDNY spokesman said.

A total of 12 units and approximately 60 fire and emergency personnel responded to the fire on the second floor and managed to bring the fire under control by 17.19.

The six people injured were civilians and the cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the FDNY.

Markham Gardens replaced a former New York City Housing Authority complex in the 2000s.
