GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB) – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers say a man is dead following a crash in Middleburg.

The victim was a 44-year-old man from Starke who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Investigators say he was traveling west on Carter Spencer Road when he went around a curve and left the road on the right.

He then crawled through a fence and into a tree, where he was fatally injured.

He was pronounced dead at Orange Park Medical Center.

FHP Corporal R. Davenport is the lead homicide investigator on this case.
