Nikkei closed 1.1% higher; Focus on US Presidential Polls

Japanese stocks closed higher, led by stocks in the electronics and finance sectors. Investors’ focus is on the US elections.

The Nikkei Stock Average closed up 1.1% at 38474.90. Among the winners in the electronics segment: sony 2.02%, NEC increased 3.04% and Canon It gained 1.6 percent in value. In the banking sector, Mizuho Finance increased by 1.1 percent Mitsubishi UFJ Finance 0.2% added.

The USD/JPY exchange rate fell to 152.01 from 152.49 at the close of the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Friday. Japanese markets were closed on Monday for a public holiday.
