Pittsburgh Pirates’ Prospects Continue to Improve in AFL

A trio of Pittsburgh Pirates prospects had strong performances in the Scottsdale Scorpions’ 10-9 rout of the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League.

He hit his third homer in the top of the fourth inning and drove in a single to center field, increasing Scottsdale’s lead to 4-2. The Pirates’ No. 3 prospect came out swinging in his final two at-bats.

Siani doubled to center field in his first at-bat in the top of the second inning and then reached base again with a single to right field in his second plate appearance in the fourth. Siani’s single set the table for the Scorpions to tie the game at 2-2 on an RBI single by San Francisco Giants infielder Charlie Szykowny, and they scored six runs to take a 7-2 lead.

Siani walked in his third at-bat and led off the top of the fifth inning, then promptly scored on Szykowny’s two-run home run. The Pirates’ outfield prospect struck out in the seventh and then came in as the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth with a runner on first base. Siani hit a base hit to right field to extend the game and put the tying run into scoring position.

However, Scottsdale was ultimately unable to capitalize as Szykowny made a move to end the game.

Linarez entered the game in the second inning and overcame an error and a walk with a double strikeout; these include Kansas City Royals prospect and 6th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft Jac Caglianone to escape the squeeze. The Pirates’ right-handed pitching prospect hit a double and a fly out in his second and final at-bat.

After Detroit Tigers left-handed pitching prospect Jake Miller gave up seven runs in 1.1 innings, Yean entered the game with Scottsdale ahead 9-7 and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and gave up a two-run single to tie the game. game.

A walk followed by back-to-back singles gave Surprise a 10-9 lead; Yean then walked out without allowing another run after a strikeout, and New York Mets infielder Jett Williams struck out a runner at home on a single from Houston Astros outfielder Quincy. Hamilton.

Scottsdale will try to end its three-game losing streak in its second straight meeting with the Saguaros (10-5) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
