A 90-year-old man died from his injuries after shooting himself at a Chester County nursing home after killing his 89-year-old wife, authorities said.

The attack occurred on Thursday, October 24, at Manatawny Manor Nursing Home in East Coventry County, Pennsylvania. Investigators say an 89-year-old patient was in her nursing home room when a 90-year-old man, later identified as her husband, walked in, pulled out a gun and shot her.

The man then shot himself in the head, according to investigators. He was taken to Reading Hospital, where he died overnight and the case was ruled a murder-suicide, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

District Attorney Christopher Barrena-Sarobe said that there was another patient in the room where the attack took place, but this person was not physically harmed during the incident.

Investigators said the murder weapon was recovered at the scene and there is no threat to the public or anyone at the nursing home at this time.
