India and China Begin to Withdraw Their Troops from Eastern Ladakh After Historic Ceasefire

Following the historic ceasefire between India and China, troop disengagement has begun at two friction points in Eastern Ladakh: Demchok and Depsang Plains. This move comes after negotiations to resolve the military dispute began in 2020. Indian forces are regularly withdrawing equipment and officials say one tent on each side has already been dismantled. On October 21, India announced a major agreement to patrol along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). While Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the consensus on restoring stability, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the agreement during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS Summit.
