Trespassing incident leads to arrest for assault on deputy in Holmes County | WDHN

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Holmes County deputies responded to a trespassing and criminal mischief complaint on Weeks Street on Tuesday.

During the interview, the complainant presented a photograph of the vehicle involved in the incident, authorities said.

Later that day, a deputy observed the suspicious vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 90. The deputy contacted the driver and identified the suspect as Jeremy Carter.

Authorities said Carter was visibly intoxicated, trying to hide an open bottle of alcohol. As a result, Carter became aggressive and interfered with the deputy’s duties.

After being warned not to intervene, Carter’s behavior escalated and he refused to wear his seat belt, according to deputies. The deputy activated the stun gun, authorities said Carter then grabbed the device and knocked it out of the deputy’s hand.

The deputy physically removed Carter from the vehicle and arrested him.

The driver admitted to authorities that he was involved in the incident. Authorities also said he tried to take his drunk brother home.

Carter was charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a law enforcement officer and battery on a law enforcement officer.
